Could it be 34th time lucky for Scotland? 33 times they have played New Zealand and all they have to show for it is two draws. The two countries meet in the Rugby Nations Championship and the All-Blacks have been in good scoring form in their last two matches. Our prediction is a New Zealand wins on a -5.5 handicap.

Scotland begin the resumption of this new tournament second in the northern hemisphere table, only a point behind France. After this game against New Zealand at Murrayfield, Scotland also have home fixtures against Australia and Japan. They first played New Zealand in 1905 and are still awaiting their first win.

The winning margin has been at least six points in every New Zealand win bar one since a draw in 1983. New Zealand are second in the southern hemisphere table with 15 points the same as leaders South Africa and seven clear of third. They travel to Wales and England after this match in Edinburgh.

Scotland - New Zealand: Form Analysis

Scotland have won two of their three games in this new Rugby International Championship. In the games played earlier this summer, they began with a 47-38 win away in Argentina. That was followed by a loss at world champions South Africa, before they beat Fiji.

This year saw Scotland finish third in the Six Nations with three wins and two draws. On home soil, they won their two matches against Scotland and England. They have won three home games in a row since losses at Murrayfield to New Zealand and Argentina last year. Scotland have 19 defeats and two draws at home against New Zealand.

The All-Blacks have a good chance of winning the Rugby International Championship. They have won all three of their games so far and only trail leaders South Africa on points difference (51 v 81). Wins came against France, Italy and Ireland, all on home soil.

Win after win for New Zealand against Scotland.

They have since won seven games and lost three times to South Africa. Their last two matches have been against Australia, Both were won and the All-Blacks scored 93 points in those two wins. They have won their last 21 games against Scotland since a draw in 1983.

Scotland & New Zealand Squad Analysis

Scotland welcome back their captain Sione Tuipulotu and fly-half Finn Russell to the starting line-up for this match against New Zealand. Both missed their last match against Fiji played in July. Several changes were made for that game and also back for Scotland are White, Steyn, Dobie and Jones.

Nearly all-change up front for Scotland.

Of the forwards that played in that win over Fiji, only Rory Sutherland will be starting this match against New Zealand. They have named a strong bench for this match, full of experience aside from Gegor Hiddleston who has only been capped three times by Scotland.

New Zealand do have the advantage of having played consistently since the first set of games in this tournament.

They have had some mixed results, but the losses they have suffered were inflicted by the world champions South Africa who they played a test series against. Beauden Barrett and Codie Taylor will start this match and both have over 100 caps for the All-Blacks.

Scotland - New Zealand Key Points

  1. Scotland have never beaten the All-Blacks.

Our Scotland vs New Zealand Prediction

Both countries are second in their respective group after the first set of games in this new tournament. Scotland have had some good home results this year, but they still haven't managed to get a victory against New Zealand and lost to them at home last year.

This is their first match of the season, while New Zealand have been playing plenty of matches including a series against South Africa. They are in high-scoring form and our Scotland v New Zealand prediction is New Zealand wins on a -5.5 handicap.
