This new rugby union tournament resumes this weekend. The Rugby Nations Championship consists of 12 countries from the northern and southern hemispheres. Ireland begin their campaign with a home game against Argentina. They have won their last four matches against the Pumas and our prediction is they will win on a -7.5 handicap.
Ireland are fourth in the northern hemisphere standings after the first three games were played earlier in 2026. They are two points behind leaders France and after this match against Argentina, they will take on Fiji and world champions South Africa with all their matches being played in Dublin.
Argentina are fourth in the southern hemisphere with one win and two defeats in their three games played to date. The Pumas are eight points behind leaders South Africa, They play this game against Ireland and then travel to Italy and France. Not since 2015 have they beaten Ireland and of the last four losses to them, the losing margin has been at least eight points.

Ireland - Argentina: Form Analysis
Ireland won two of their three matches in this tournament earlier this summer. They began with a 33-31 win in Australia and then won away in Japan. They were unable to make it three wins out of three as the Irish side were beaten 40-21 by New Zealand in Auckland four months ago.
The home side finished second in this year's Six Nations Championship. Four of their five games were won, including all three of their home fixtures, two by a margin of more than 7.5 points. Their only loss was away to France who won the title. They had won six in a row before that loss to New Zealand and won five out of six at home.
Ireland are attempting to win a fifth straight match against Argentina, most recently beating them 22-19 at home two years ago.
Poor start made by Argentina.
Argentina have only won one of their three matches in this tournament. The Pumas were beaten 47-38 by Scotland in their opening fixture, but got a win when beating Wales at home. Their final fixture before the break saw them beaten 31-24 at home by England.
Since then, Argentina have played in three friendlies, losing to South Africa and Australia, before a draw with the Wallabies. Only one of their last ten matches against Ireland has been won. That was a 2015 World Cup match played in Wales. They have never beaten Ireland in Ireland.

Ireland & Argentina Squad Analysis
Ireland will be without their captain Caelan Doris for this home game against Argentina. Also absent will be Jack Conan who is also injured. He is being replaced by Sean Jansen. Nick Timoney and Craig Casey will also come into the side for this match.
Jansen made his debut for Ireland earlier this summer and scored a try against Japan. A brief appearance was made in the loss to New Zealand.
Jamison Gibson-Park and Josh van der Flier will start this match on the bench. Gibson-Park has been influential for Ireland in recent years, but he has been injured for most of this season. He's only played one match so far this term, but will be a good player to possibly come on in the second half.
A dozen changes for Argentina.
Argentina have been inconsistent this year and come into this match still waiting for their first win in Dublin after 11 defeats. They have made 12 changes from the team that drew their most recent game with Australia. With just one win so far in this tournament they need some wins in the next few weeks. Juan Cruz Mallia is back for the first time in a year.

Our Ireland vs Argentina Prediction
Ireland have had a good year and finished second in the Six Nations. Of eight matches played this year, they have only lost to France and New Zealand, both in away games. They have a perfect home record against Argentina for games played in their home country.
Argentina have it all to do to secure a high finish in this tournament. Their only win has come against Wales with their other two matches both being lost and they lack consistency. Our main Ireland v Argentina prediction is Ireland wins on a -7.5 handicap.
