Unseeded Luca Van Assche has made it all the way to the Estoril Open final. He takes on the fourth seed Alexander Blockx on Sunday. The seed beat Luciano Darderi on Saturday and our prediction is he can win this title.
Luca Van Assche is playing in his first ATP Tour final. He beat fellow Frenchman Hugo Gaston in straight sets and has risen to 65th in the live rankings, two below his career-high. A win here will take him up to 48th.
Before beating Gaston, he had three matches here that all went to a deciding set. That included beating the top seed Andrey Rublev. This is the second time this year that they have met in a final. Van Assche beat Blockx in an indoor hard court Challenger Tour final in February.
The only ATP final that Alexander Blockx has previously reached was in the Next Gen Finals
His first two wins of this outdoor clay court tournament both went to a deciding set. He had wins over Kyrian Jacquet and Roman Andres Burruchaga. The Belgian defeated the second seed Luciano Darderi on Saturday night.
He lost the first set 7-5 but won the next two via tie-breaks. A side bet on a tie-break here could well produce a profit.
Blockx is up to a career-high 32nd in the live rankings.
