The 34-22-11 Los Angeles Kings will host the 33-27-8 Minnesota Wild early on Thursday morning. They are holding onto third place in the Pacific at the moment but they are on the same points as the Vegas Golden Knights so they are going to need to try and win some more games than they have been. This is the middle game of three at home for them, the Chicago Blackhawks coming to town the night before this game, a match that the Kings will be fully expecting to win. They beat the Wild 7-3 in Minnesota when they met back in October, though two empty net goals extended the scoreline rather more than it should have been. The Kings spread the goals around plenty with eight players between 15 and 25 goals this season. Blake Lizotte only has five goals on the year but two of those are short handed and two are game winners so he has notched them at key times.
Four losses in five road games heading into a game against the Anaheim Ducks the day before this game is an issue for the Wild who have been streaky this season. Scoring goals has been a bit of a problem of late, but they have not been conceding many either. They are middle-of-the-road when it comes to scoring and conceding goals and are currently five points out of the playoffs. There is enough time for them to make a run but they have their longest home stand and road trip of the season still to come which is going to make for an interesting end to the season. Kirill Kaprizov is having another excellent campaign, well on the way to a third straight season of 40+ goals, leading the team.
