Medvedev is a former Rogers Cup winner. He achieved this feat in 2021 three seasons after he had lost in the final. The world number three began things off with a 2-0 win over the qualifier Matteo Arnaldi. His first match since his semifinal finish at Wimbledon, lasted for an hour and 26 minutes. The winner here will advance to play either eighth-seed Taylor Fritz or unseeded Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals.
