Lorenzo Musetti, the top seed at the Chengdu Open, will meet Alexander Shevchenko in the second semi-final at the event. This will be the second match between the two players but the first on a hardcourt. Read on for our prediction.

Musetti had a first-round bye before beating Dino Prizmic and Nikoloz Basilashvili to set up this tie. His quarter-final was much more stable, as he lost just six games. The only top 10 player in this competition, Musetti has made his time count here.

There’s still ground to cover, though, as Musetti is eyeing a first final appearance this season. The Italian is also the only top 15 player yet to win a tour title this season. He is ninth in the live rank and has compiled a 32-13 record.

Shevchenko hasn’t had an easy ride. In the opening rounds, he saw off Gael Monfils, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and Taro Daniel. A win here will deliver him only a second final of his career.

For him, it is a seriously lopsided affair, coming here on a 2-10 record against top 10 players. He also lost to Musetti in 2024 at Roland Garros. In his quarter-final, Shevchenko had played two hours less than Taro Daniel here in Chengdu.

However, in the semis, he has been on the court for six hours, 17 minutes; close to three hours more than Musetti. Shevchenko has improved by three places in the live rank to 87th.
