Fourth seed Magda Linette will begin her Hua Hin campaign with a first-round showdown against unseeded Lesia Tsurenko. This match marks the third meeting between the two and we have a prediction ready.

Tsurenko is struggling, but will be excited about returning to a competition she did so well in the last time she participated. The Ukrainian, currently on four losses, finished as runner-up in her Thailand Open debut last year and hopes for a season turnaround.

The year 2024 has been tough for Tsurenko; she has lost seven more matches than the 10 she has so far won. Eight of her wins, however, came on hard courts. Another positive for the world number 92 is her head-to-head advantage over Linette.

Tsurenko won both times she met Linette, with their most recent showdown being in Miami in March.

Magda Linette also has a strong record in Hua Hin. She has played here three times before, finishing in the semis on her debut in 2019 and claiming the title a year later. The Pole featured in the year’s first edition of the Thailand Open but suffered an early exit.

The 32-year-old, who is having a much better year than Tsurenko, will be eager to have a prolonged run. Though inconsistent, Linette has put up a 24-22 record. She has made it to two finals, winning the title in Prague.

A dominant hardcourt player with over 200 wins on the surface, she has struggled on the surface this year. The current world number 43 has managed just five hard-court wins.

The winner in this match will play Rebecca Sramkova or a yet-to-be-revealed qualifier next.
