Stade Marcel-Deflandre will be lit on Sunday as Stade Rochelais host defending champions Stade Toulousain in Round 1 of the 2026-27 Top 14 season. The hosts have been difficult opponents at home for Stade Toulousain in recent years, leading us to favor Stade Rochelais in our prediction.
Stade Rochelais' campaign in the French top flight last season ended in the quarterfinals following a 45–5 defeat away to Stade Francais. However, they won each of their final six regular-season fixtures before that loss.
Notably, Les Maritimes won each of their final four home fixtures last season. They beat Stade Toulousain in their last four meetings at Stade Marcel-Deflandre.
Stade Toulousain held off Montpellier HR's late rally to win the 2025-26 Top 14 final and retain the title for the fourth consecutive season. The Red and Blacks will target a strong start this season while looking to add a 26th French championship to their cabinet.
However, Sunday's clash is unlikely to be an easy contest. Ugo Mola's men lost both of their final two Top 14 away matches last season, including a 38–10 defeat in their most recent trip to Stade Marcel-Deflandre.
