The Kolkata Knight Riders will play host to the Rajasthan Royals in match 31 of the 2024 Indian Premier League on Tuesday afternoon. The hosts are second in the league standings while the visitors lead the way. The Kolkata Knight Riders have made a solid start to the IPL this year. They are one of five teams that are tied on six points each, but they are also the only team in the competition that has played four games, one less than the likes of CSK and LSG and two fewer than their opponents in this match. KKR rattled off three wins in a row to get the competition underway, beating the Sunrisers, Royal Challengers, and Delhi Capitals before suffering their only defeat to date agaisnt the Super Kings last week. A particularly impressive aspect of their game has been that they have received inputs from top to bottom, meaning they are not having to be dependent on just a select few players to carry the team. They will need another all-round performance here against the league leaders.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals have shot out the blocks in this year’s competition and already lead the league standings with ten points, albeit they have played two games more than their opponents. They beat the Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in their first four games before conceding their only loss so far against the Gujarat Titans. The Royals bounced back from that defeat in fine style, though, overcoming the Punjab Kings by three wickets on Saturday. Rajasthan have received excellent contributions from their key players with both bat and ball. Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson have contributed 284 and 264 runs each, placing them second and third, respectively, in the race for the orange cap. Yuzvendra Chahal, on the other hand, is currently wearing the purple cap, with 11 wickets in just 22 overs. The Royals have won the last two games between these sides and will need to be at their best here to overcome KKR this year.
