Third seed Sorana Cirstea and the unseeded Kamila Rakhimova will square off in the opening round of the Transylvanian Open. This will mark their second showdown of the year, and below is our prediction for the match.

Kamila Rakhimova is looking to end a losing run against Cirstea and, at the same time, spark a season turnaround. The Russian-born Uzbeki player, who is yet to win against Cirstea, has lost three of five matches in 2026.

After falling to Cirstea in Adelaide, the world number 93, who is on a two-match skid, was eliminated in Melbourne in the first round by Cori Gauff. Rakhimova earned a second-round finish in her only other Cluj-Napoca appearance four years ago.

Sorana Cirstea has lost in the first round both times she has appeared in her home country event. She made her tournament debut in 2023 and was present at last year’s event.

With her strong start to the year and dominant run against Rakhimova, the 35-year-old will be confident of ending this duck.

Cirstea, who has defeated Rakhimova twice, both times by straight sets, has won five of seven matches in 2026.

Set to start a new week up five places to 36th in the live ranking, the Romanian has produced a third-round finish in Brisbane and made the second round in Melbourne.
