Second seed Grigor Dimitrov has advanced to another semifinal in Brisbane and will square off with unseeded Jordan Thompson. The winner will then advance to play either Holger Rune or Roman Safiullin in the final. Jordan Thompson has advanced to the last four here for the first time in what is his fourth main draw appearance. He defeated Rafael Nadal in three sets to achieve this feat. The two battled for more than three hours with Thompson coming from a set down to win. Thompson, who received a walkover in the second round, is now up eight places in the world ranking to number 47. The Australian is yet to win a tour title and has only twice contested a final at the top level.

Grigor Dimitrov is a former Brisbane champion. He won the title in 2017 and will be hoping to ascend to the crown again in what is his eighth appearance here. The Bulgarian has also won two of the previous four semifinals he has contested in Brisbane. To advance to this round, Dimitrov defeated crowd favourite Rinky Hijikata in straight sets. It was his second straight sets win in the tournament and saw him relinquish just five games. The 32-year-old had one of his best campaigns at tour level last season and contested two tour finals to end a five-year wait. Dimitrov is currently ranked 14th in the ATP.
