After their Cincinnati Open Round of 16 rumble in August, World No. 3 Jessica Pegula and 17th-ranked Sorana Cirstea lock horns again, this time in the US Open fourth round at Louis Armstrong Stadium this evening. Pegula has won her previous three meetings with Sorana Cirstea by at least a four-game margin. With Cirstea struggling against players ranked in the top five this year, our prediction backs Pegula to win and cover the handicap.

Jessica Pegula fell short of what would have been a third WTA title this year after a heartbreaking defeat to World No. 4 Coco Gauff in the Cincinnati Open final in August. However, it appears the 11-time WTA champion has waved aside that setback with the US Open crown now in sight. 

She survived Leylah Fernandez's early scare, rallying from a five-game deficit in the opening set to defeat the Canadian 1–6, 6–4, 6–3 in the third round on Friday. That result saw her improved to a remarkable 8–1 record in her last nine matches.

Sorana Cirstea dispatched former World No. 4 and Italian sensation Jasmine Paolini in 76 minutes in the third round, winning 6–3, 6–3. However, she has lost her previous three meetings with Jessica Pegula by at least four games. 

The four-time WTA champion has also lost all six of her meetings with top-five players in 2026. Six of her last seven defeats have come by at least four games.
