Top seed Jessica Pegula will take on Marta Kostyuk in the second semifinal of the San Diego Open scheduled for Sunday. To book her ticket here, Pegula saw off Anna Blinkova in three sets in the quarterfinals. This will be the third meeting between these two players with Pegula having the best of their opening two meetings. The last time they met was at the Australian Open last year with Jessica Pegula registering her second win in as many meetings. The American comes into this game much more experienced and has had a good run at San Diego after staying away the last two years. The 30-year-old has compiled a record of 6-2 coming into this semi final clash. She will be gunning for a better run after a disappointing outing at the Australian Open, where she was dumped out in the second round. By advancing to the semis, the current world number five has equaled her record at San Diego. She reached the last four in her debut back in 2022.

Sixth seeded Marta Kostyuk booked her ticket through eliminating fourth seeded Anastacia Pavlyuchenkova. That match, delayed by rain, also needed three sets to decide the winner, with Kostyuk recovering from losing the first set. She won 6-4, 6-3 after dropping the first set 6-3. Ranked 34th the Ukrainian will seek to stop Pegula’s quest for a third win in this fixture. She already overcame one hurdle in winning the first of three quarterfinals she’s played this year. Kostyuk will have a good feeling about this match, having earlier failed to go past the quarters at a tour event since winning in Austin last year. The 21-year old has won 11 of her 15 matches this year, all on hardcourts, most were however not in main draw matches. She is keen on making her third appearance at San Diego a memorable one. The winner here will face off with either Emma Navarro or Katie Boulter in the title match.
