Jessica Pegula is now just two wins away from retaining her Charleston title. The American was crowned champion of this event last season after back-to-back years of falling out in the semi-finals.

Though she hasn’t quite dominated her way to the last four, she has done enough to get the job done. Pegula has required a deciding third set in each of her three matches this week.

In the quarters, the world number five fought her way from losing the first set to eliminate seventh seed Diana Shnaider. Pegula, who defeated Jovic on her way to winning the Dubai title back in February, has won 22 matches so far.

Iva Jovic is having quite the debut campaign in Charleston. Not only is she just two wins away from being crowned champion, she has also scorched her way through to this round.

The American hasn’t lost a single set in three outings. She has faced two seeded players in the last two rounds, eliminating eighth seed Anna Kalinskaya in the quarters.

Jovic, the world number 16, is having a strong year. She has won 18 of 25 matches and has produced a runner-up finish in Hobart, a semi-final run in Auckland, and a quarter-final exit in Melbourne.
