Sloane Stephens marks her return to the Miami Open with a match against fellow wildcard Jennifer Brady in the first round. This marks their first career meeting on tour, and below we have a prediction.

Brady returned to competitive action after a three-year absence at the start of this season. A former Australian Open finalist, the American had been sidelined with a career-threatening knee injury.

She made her return by competing in the ITF circuit, where she won her opening three matches, making the semi-finals of the event held in San Diego.

Switching to the tour, she has lost both her matches in Austin and Indian Wells. Brady is ranked outside the WTA top 700.

Stephens is also ranked below the top 700. The American has been a bit-part player on the tour since the start of last season and has played just 13 games.

Last year, she lost all six matches that she contested, and this season, she has compiled a 3-4 record. Also arriving in Miami, having lost three matches in a row, Stephens is yet to win in the main draw of a tour event.

She was defeated in Austin in her last fixture. The 32-year-old is a former Miami champion. She achieved that feat in 2018, an amazing year, which saw her reach a career-high world ranking of number three.
