Jasmine Paolini, the 13th seed at this year’s Wimbledon major, will face the unseeded Maria Sakkari in the third-round. This is their sixth career meeting and the second at a major. Having done well in this round at Wimbledon before, our prediction backs the Italian.

Paolini defeated Viktorija Golubic in the second round in straight sets. The Italian, a former Wimbledon finalist, looked more assured in that match than she had been in the first-round.

She lost the first set by a bagel when she faced off with Robin Montgomery in the opening round. This season has been a tough one for Paolini.

The former world number four has compiled a nervy 14-12 record and has continued to drop further from the WTA top 10. She is currently the WTA’s world number 17.

Sakkari fought through three sets to get the better of Kamila Rakhimova in the last round. The Greek star had started her week in fine form, eliminating 24th seed Clara Tauson in straight sets.

She will be looking to return to that solidity as she seeks to break her third-round hoodoo at the All England Club. Sakkari has never won a third-round fixture at Wimbledon, losing in the four times she has made it this far.

But as she has a head-to-head advantage over Paolini, things could be about to change. Sakkari, who has compiled a 13-13 record, defeated Paolini in Doha back in February for her third win in this fixture.
