Unseeded Jakub Mensik attempts to cause another shock in the outdoor hard court ASB Classic. He beat top seed Ben Shelton in round two and now takes on the seventh seed Nuno Borges. Here's our match prediction.
Jakub Mensik is in his second quarter-final of the year. He also reached this stage in Brisbane last week. This time last year, he was ranked outside the top 150 but is now at 47th in the live rankings and that's a new career-high.
The Czech defeated Pablo Carreno Busta in round one. He had to go to three sets to win that match against the lucky loser, dropping the middle one. Another three set match followed in round two as he beat top seed Ben Shelton, again losing the second set.
Borges may be the seventh seed but he's the highest one left. The winner of this match will face either qualifier Zizou Bergs or unseeded Roberto Carballes Baena in the last four. Borges is up to 33rd in the live rankings but has also had some tough times this week.
He lost the first set to Luciano Darderi in round one but won the next two. In the second round, the Portuguese player beat Mariano Navone, again after losing the first set. We go for Mensik to win.
