Ireland plays host to Australia at the Aviva Stadium for this Autumn International. The home team are coming of wins over the world champions Springboks and Fiji while the Australians suffered their first ever loss to Italy in their last match. Ireland underlined their number one ranking in their win over South Africa but did not show the same class in the last match against Fiji mainly due to the number of changes made between matches. This match should see the return of recently nominated World Rugby player of the year candidates Johnny Sexton and Josh Van der Flier. Sexton in particular transforms the side with his general game control and excellent vision for the match situation. Ireland have had a golden year and will want to end the year with a resounding victory in front of a packed house at the Aviva stadium.

Australia will be desperate for a response from their players after losing to Italy for the first time in their history. Coach Dave Rennie is a man under fire and he must shoulder much of the blame for the loss as he made wholesale changes for the Italian match. The visitors were lucky to have won their first match on tour against Scotland as Blair Kinghorn missed a penalty that would have given them the win. Australia are missing some key players like Quade Cooper and Samu Kerevi but their absence has only highlighting the lack of depth in the present squad.
