Stage 3 of the Tour de France sees the peloton quickly into a mountain stage, though not one that is tough enough for the main contenders. This looks a breakaway type stage which puts things in the wheelhouse of the likes of Magnus Cort.

These potential breakaway stages are always difficult to predict. Ben Healy was a strong breakaway rider in the tour last year and his EF Education team are liable to be looking to get away again. If it is not Healy, then perhaps Alex Baudin will be the man to be sent up the road as he was on Stage 1 of Tour Auvergne.

At Astana, it could be Harold Tejada who gets the nod to attack. He got away in four breaks in La Vuelta last year and three times in the Tour de France. He looked none the worse for his Stage 1 crash on Sunday’s Stage 2.

This is the final Tour de France for Magnus Cort who will retire at the end of the year. He will surely want to have a couple of moments to remember, with this looking a workable stage. Two Tour de France stage wins grace his career, including on a breakaway in 2022. 

Another team who like to get out on the attack are Jayco AlUla. The likes of Luke Plapp and Mauro Schmid are viable options here for getting up the road. Plapp won a stage of the 2025 Giro from a breakaway and Schmid was second a Tour de France stage last year from an attack.
