La Vuelta - Stage 16 Predictions & Betting tips - International

 by Matthew Newman |

La Vuelta enters the final week with a stage for the sprinters, although that is a bit of a misnomer in this field. There are some hills early on but the second half of the stage is flat and fast which should make it Matthew Brennan territory.

It has been a great race for Visma so far, winning five of the 15 stages, and they will believe they can get a sixth here with the dual attack of Matthew Brennan and Wout van Aert who have the five wins between them.

The green jersey is almost van Aert’s after his win on Stage 15 giving him a commanding 108 point lead. Matthew Brennan would need to win plenty in the last week to run him remotely close, but this is a stage that Brennan should take.

Third in the standings is the consistent Alessandro Romele. The 23-year-old has five finishes in the top 10 on stages so far in this race including an outstanding ride when second to van Aert on Stage 15.

There have been three podium finishes on stages in the opening two weeks for Jordi Meeus. He has just found others too strong but he is worth considering for those looking for a selection at slightly longer odds.

Our La Vuelta - Stage 16 - International prediction

With this being more of a proper sprinters stage, that should play into the hands of Matthew Brennan. He and teammate Wout van Aert have got five stages between them, with both Stage 16 and Stage 17 looking perfect for a sprint finish. Although Wout van Aert currently leads the race for the top sprinter jersey, he has more than enough in hand for Brennan to win both and still retain it, so our La Vuelta Stage 16 prediction is Matthew Brennan wins.
