The semi-finalists at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup will be confirmed on Sunday afternoon, when India take on the West Indies in the final Super 8 match of the competition at Eden Gardens. The Men in Blue and the Windies are locked on two points apiece and are third and second, respectively, in the Group 1 standings. Check out our match prediction below!

India came into this year’s T20 World Cup as the overwhelming favourites to retain their title, but they now have to fight to remain in the competition after losing to South Africa in their opening match of the Super 8. With both these sides on two points, the net run rate - which the West Indies has the advantage in - will not matter unless the match is abandoned.

From the outset, the Windies have looked like a side transformed in this tournament. While they also lost to the Proteas, this represents a massive opportunity to announce themselves as genuine global contenders again, and a straight shootout for qualification could be an ideal situation for them. Let’s get into the key stats!

India - West Indies: Form Analysis

India came through the group stage with a perfect record, but they were not at their absolute best, as they had to survive a couple of scares from the US and the Netherlands either side of routine wins against Pakistan and Namibia.

The Men in Blue were completely outplayed in their first match of the Super 8, losing to South Africa by 76 runs. However, they bounced back from that with an emphatic 72-run victory over Zimbabwe on Thursday.

The reigning champions’ 12-match win streak in T20 World Cups was ended with that loss to SA, but they have still won eight of their last 10 matches in the shortest format of the game (all competitions).

India have lost three of their last five T20Is against the West Indies!

Meanwhile, the West Indies also maintained a flawless record during the group stage, securing wins over Scotland, Italy, Nepal, and most impressively, a 30-run victory over semi-finalists England.

The Windies kicked off their Super 8 stage with a commanding 107-run victory over Zimbabwe, but fell to the Proteas by nine wickets, despite an incredible comeback with the bat after a top-order collapse.

The men from the Caribbean have won six of their last 10 T20Is. While they do have the advantage in their last five T20Is against this opponent, the last encounter between the teams was in 2023.

India & West Indies Squad Analysis

While India’s batting order has been under the spotlight, they do have two players in the top-10 run scorers in the competition in Ishan Kishan (5th) and Suryakumar Yadav (6th) with 214 and 213 runs, respectively.

One player that has massively underperformed in the tournament is Abhishek Sharma, who failed to score a single run in the group stage. However, he got a half-century against Zimbabwe and will be hoping that knock is the start of a turnaround in fortunes.

With the ball, the number one-ranked bowler in T20Is, Varun Chakaravarthy, leads the team with 11 scalps. The mystery spinner is ranked fifth in the overall leading wicket-taker standings in the competition.

Romario Shepherd has the best individual bowling figures in the T20 World Cup (5/20)!

However, Shepherd showed that he is well capable of making an impact with the bat as well in his last match, when he smashed a stunning 52* (37) against South Africa to get his side to a respectable total after their top order collapsed.

Over the course of the tournament, Shimron Hetmyer has been the team’s standout performer with the bat, scoring 221 runs in six innings, which places him fourth in the leading run-scorer standings.

While Shepherd has the best single-match bowling figures, the most effective bowler for the Windies has been Gudakesh Motie, who has 10 wickets in 20 overs and an economy rate of 7.75.

Our India vs West Indies Prediction

As has been the case in every match they’ve played in the competition, India enter this one as the clear favourites, but we have our concerns about how they will fare here, having not produced their best form in the tournament so far.

Both these sides have batting lineups that can tear apart bowlers on their day, and with this being a virtual quarter-final, they’re likely to throw caution to the wind. With five of the top six players who have struck the most sixes in this tournament set to feature, we’re expecting a high-scoring affair. Our India vs West Indies prediction is over 18.5 sixes.

India vs West Indies Alternative Predictions

West Indies wins

Odds 3.4

While India is the out-and-out favourite to retain their title, most from a neutral perspective will likely agree that they have been some way off their best in this competition. The Windies have won three of their last five T20Is against the Men in Blue, and have never lost a T20I match at Eden Gardens.
