Fifty-four matches down, only one to go - It’s India taking on New Zealand in the grand final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The Men in Blue have won the world title in the shortest format twice, while the Black Caps are hoping to lift the trophy for the first time. Check out our match prediction below!

India entered the 2026 T20 World Cup as the reigning champions and favourites to retain their crown. They are bidding to become the first nation ever to win back-to-back world titles in the shortest format of the game and cement themselves as the most successful country in the competition's history by clinching the trophy for a third time.

The Kiwis, on the other hand, have never won the T20 World Cup and have only reached the final once before - back in 2021 when they lost to Australia by eight wickets in Dubai. While they are the clear underdogs, that could work in the visitors’ favour, as all the pressure in front of the 132,000 in attendance will be on the host nation. Let’s get into the key stats!

India - New Zealand: Form Analysis

India have lived up to expectations by reaching the final, but they have not been at their fluent best throughout the competition and have had to rely on moments of individual brilliance to get them to this stage.

The Men in Blue survived scares by the US and the Netherlands in the group stage before losing to South Africa in the Super 8. However, their last two matches against Zimbabwe and the Windies in the semi-final were their best in the tournament.

India have won 10 of their last 11 T20Is and 13 of their last 14 in T20 World Cups. They also beat this opponent 4-1 in a five-match T20I series in January this year.

New Zealand have played two T20Is at this venue in the past and lost both games!

Meanwhile, New Zealand finished in second place in the group stage behind South Africa and got through to the semi-final on net-run rate, denying Pakistan a spot in the final four.

The Black Caps produced their undoubted best performance of the competition on Wednesday when they destroyed the unbeaten Proteas by nine wickets and 7.1 overs to spare at Eden Gardens.

With that result, the Kiwis have now won seven of their last 10 T20Is. They have only beaten this opponent four times in 19 T20 matches since the start of 2020.

India & New Zealand Squad Analysis

Since earning his recall to the Indian team, Sanju Samson has produced two heroic knocks, scoring 97* against the Windies before a crucial 89 (42) in the semi-final against England on Thursday.

With Abhishek Sharma enduring a dismal campaign, Ishan Kishan has been the team’s top scorer in this competition with 263 runs in eight innings, followed by skipper Suryakumar Yadav on 242 runs.

Varun Chakaravarthy has been India’s main contributor with the ball, notching up 13 wickets in 28 overs to date, and he is the favourite to end the 2026 T20 World Cup as the leading wicket-taker.

Finn Allen is one of only six players to score a century in this year’s T20 World Cup!

The New Zealand opener got to the magical three-figure mark in just 33 deliveries against South Africa in the semi-final. That knock now stands as the fastest century in a men’s T20 World Cup match.

However, the Kiwis’ most consistent player in this competition has been Allen’s opening partner, Tim Seifert, who is averaging 45.67 and has scored 274 runs in eight innings, including a top score of 89*.

The visitors have been criticised for their bowling in this tournament, but Rachin Ravindra has been mightily impressive, notching up 11 wickets so far, and he now trails Chakaravathy by two scalps.

Our India vs New Zealand Prediction

India have not been at their usual high standard in this competition, but they have done what champions do - find a way to win games even when they are not performing at their absolute best.

New Zealand defied the odds by comprehensively beating the fancied South Africans to reach the World Cup final. However, their record against India in the shortest format is far from inspiring, and we feel they will have to settle for silver this year. Our India vs New Zealand prediction is India wins.
