The penultimate match of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup will see India facing off against England in the second semi-final on Thursday afternoon at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The winner of this match between the Men in Blue and the Poms will face either South Africa or New Zealand in the grand final. Check out our match prediction below!
India are the favourites to retain the T20 World Cup title this year, but most would agree that they have not been at their absolute best in this competition. However, the reigning champs seemed to have woken up after their record-breaking win streak in the competition was ended by South Africa, as they romped to an impressive momentum-building victory over the Windies last week.
After a disappointing campaign in 2024, England have turned things around in this year’s tournament, though they did lose to the West Indies in the group stage. Given that India beat the team from the Caribbean last week, the Poms are the underdogs in this contest, but can they spring a surprise and oust the kings of the shortest format on their home soil? Let’s get into the key stats!

India - England: Form Analysis
While India won all of their group stage games, they were given a couple of proper scares by the US and the Netherlands, either side of fairly straightforward wins against Pakistan and Namibia.
The Men in Blue then suffered their biggest loss in T20 World Cups against South Africa in the Super 8 (76 runs), before easing past Zimbabwe and downing the Windies to reach the final four.
That loss to the Proteas is the only one the reigning champs have suffered in their last 10 T20Is and their last 14 T20 World Cup matches dating back to the start of the 2024 edition of the tournament.
India beat England 4-1 at home in their last T20I series in January 2025!
Meanwhile, England finished second in Group C by beating Scotland, Italy and Nepal. Their only loss during the group stage was to the West Indies by 30 runs at this venue on February 11.
However, the two-time champions hit their stride in the Super 8, defeating Sri Lanka (51 runs), Pakistan (2 wickets) and New Zealand (4 wickets) to top the group with a net run rate of 1.096.
The Poms have now won 13 of their last 14 T20Is. England will also be out for revenge here, as they were beaten by this very opponent in this same fixture in the 2024 tournament in Georgetown.

India & England Squad Analysis
India’s batting lineup has come under scrutiny in this competition due to some inconsistencies, but skipper Suryakumar Yadav is ranked fifth in the leading run-scorer standings with 231 in seven innings.
The biggest underperformer for the Men in Blue has been Abhishek Sharma, who fell cheaply again in the last match. However, Sanju Samson’s return to the top of the order paid off handsomely, as he led the team to victory in that match with a knock of 97* (50).
Unsurprisingly, Varun Chakaravarthy has been the team’s best bowler in this tournament. The mystery spinner has copped 12 scalps, just one less than the leading wicket-taker in the competition, Shadley Van Schalkwyk.
Harry Brook is one of only five players to score a century in the 2026 T20 World Cup!
That knock came against Pakistan in the Super 8 to help secure England’s place in the semis. Brook has 228 runs in seven innings and ranks seventh in the latest leading run-scorer standings.
One player who has exceeded expectations for the Poms is Will Jacks, who notched up Player of the Match accolades against Nepal, Italy, Sri Lanka and New Zealand for his efforts with both bat and ball.
Adil Rashid is the team’s top wicket-taker with 11 wickets, and he will have to play a big role here as their main spin option. Liam Dawson and Jofra Archer have taken 10 wickets apiece in seven games.

Our India vs England Prediction
England will know that they have a massive task on their hands here, and their best chance of pulling off an upset against the reigning champions will hinge on their ability to overpower India’s top order during the powerplay.
Jofra Archer has been excellent in the opening overs, with eight of his 10 wickets coming in powerplays, while as a team, the Poms have claimed 18 scalps in the first six overs. India’s openers have been hit and miss in this competition, and we feel that Archer and co will be able to get an early breakthrough in this one. Our India vs England prediction is India total at 1st dismissal - under 26.5 runs.
