It's been a massive year for Daniil Medvedev. He's the second seed for the Paris Masters and begins his campaign with a second round match against Ilya Ivashka. Medvedev has won four titles this year and moved up to second in the world. He's won 50 matches on the ATP Tour this year and is already in the Tour Finals. The Russian had won ten matches in a row before being beaten by Grigor Dimitrov at Indian Wells. During that run of wins, Medvedev won the US Open with a win over Novak Djokovic in the final. He is the defending champion in this tournament but before last year's triumph he had never made it past the second round here. The winner of this match will face unseeded opposition in the third round with either Cilic, Fokina or Korda.

Iyla Ivashka began this week ranked 46th and that's a massive improvement as he was 116th in March. Ivashka reached the semi-finals of a clay court tournament in Munich but his biggest success was winning the Winston Salem hard court title in August. He beat Pablo Carreno Busta (ranked 12th at the time) but only one other top 50 player. Another semi-final was reached in Kazakhstan but with no wins against anyone in the top 60. Ivashka beat Albert Ramos Vinolas in straight sets to make it to the Paris Masters second round. His last meeting with Medvedev was three years ago and he won in a team event. Before that, he'd lost three times to the Russian. Back Medvedev to win this and in straight sets.
