Iga Swiatek’s fourth round match at the 2024 US Open will pit her against Liudmila Samsonova on Monday. Heading into their fourth career meeting, here’s our prediction. Swiatek has never lost to Samsonova before.

Their last duel came in the deciding match at last year’s China Open. With a strong record in this fixture, she will be confident of avoiding back-to-back fourth-round defeats at this major. Swiatek suffered a shock loss at this stage last year while playing as defending champion.

The world number one has been in superb form on her return to New York, winning all her matches in straight sets. She defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova by the loss of six games in the third round. This year’s French Open champion has compiled a 58-7 record and has won five singles titles.

Liudmila Samsonova has for the second time in five appearances at Flushing Meadows made it to the fourth round. This is also the third time she has advanced this far in a major and looks to set a new career-high performance.

The 16th seed was in devastating form in the third round against unseeded Ashlyn Krueger, losing just two games to the American. Though she has had a topsy-turvy season, Samsonova has risen in recent weeks.

The Russian has won eight of her last 10 matches and will be eyeing an upset here. This year’s Hertogenbosch champion has moved up to 15th in the live ranking after claiming 110 ranking points.

The winner here will set up a quarter-final showdown with either Diana Shnaider or Jessica Pegula.
