Third seed Iga Swiatek and seventh seed Jasmine Paolini will contest this year’s Cincinnati Open final. This is their sixth career meeting and the second as a championship match. See below our analysis and a prediction for this tie.

Iga Swiatek has never lost against Paolini. She has won all five of their duels thus far and arrives for this latest contest as the outright favourite. The Pole defeated Paolini to lift last season’s French Open title.

This is her biggest win in this series with the Italian. Their most recent matchup was two months ago in Bad Homburg. Swiatek, who is contesting her first final in Cincinnati, is a 10-time WTA 1000 champion.

Victory at Lindner Centre will bump Swiatek up one place to second in the live rankings. The 24-year-old, who has lost just once in her last 15 outings, defeated Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals.

Jasmine Paolini has a poor record against Swiatek and also in championship ties at tour level. The Italian, who broke into the WTA top 10 last season, has lost five of the eight finals she has contested.

However, she can arrive for this latest final with renewed confidence due to her 100% record in WTA finals. Paolini is a two-time WTA 1000 champion, winning in Dubai last year and on home soil in Rome earlier in this season.

To advance to the final, Poalini withstood three gruelling sets to see off Veronika Kudermetova. Now up to eighth in the live ranking, the 29-year-old has won 33 matches this season.
