Top seed Iga Swiatek is up against the unseeded Daria Kasatkina at the Qatar Open. Having faced each other seven times previously, their next showdown will take place in the third round. Read on for our prediction of this match.

Swiatek saw her quest for a third successive title in Doha come to an end last season as she was defeated in the semi-final by Jelena Ostapenko.

The Pole, who has never failed to reach at least the last four here, will be eager to return to the summit in Qatar and claim her first title of the season.

Swiatek, who breezed past Janice Tjen in the last round to start her week, has now won eight of 11 matches. The world number two arrived in Doha after a quarter-final exit at the Australian Open.

Daria Kasatkina has lost six consecutive meetings with Swiatek without winning a set. She won their first meeting on grass in Eastbourne but has been bulldozed since, and with her shaky start to the year, looks destined for another defeat.

The world number 61, who has compiled a 3-4 record, is competing in Doha for a fourth time. Yet to progress past the third round at this event, Kasatkina had a dominant outing against 16th seed Elise Mertens in the last round.

She won 6-4, 6-0 to continue her streak against the Belgian.
