Iga Swiatek takes on Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the Women’s Singles bronze medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Let’s take a look at the key stats as well as our prediction for what looks to be a one-sided matchup.

If you had said that Iga Swiatek would be competing for a medal at these Olympics, the majority of tennis fans would have assumed it would be for the gold. Unfortunately for the Pole, she suffered a shock upset in the semi-final and was ousted in straight sets by China’s Zheng Qinwen. 

The defeat ended Swiatek’s absurd 25-match winning run at Roland Garros, a streak which saw her claim the last three consecutive French Open titles.

Swiatek is the overwhelming favorite in the eyes of the oddsmakers to bounce back and claim her first piece of Olympic hardware. We tend to agree with their sentiment, despite the 23-year-old Swiatek not playing up to her extremely high standards in the last few matches.

Schmiedlova certainly has her work cut out for her but the 29-year-old has not flinched in the face of tough opposition so far. The Slovak has downed two top-10 ranked players en route to this third-place matchup.

The third round saw Schmiedlova knock out Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini in three sets. She would then follow that up by scoring a straight sets victory over the reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova in the quarter-final. Her dream run came to an end in the semi-finals after losing 2-0 to Croatian Donna Vekic.
