In one of the biggest matches of the group stages of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Australia will take on South Africa. This match #10 of the tournament will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday. Australia are coming off a six-wicket loss to India in their tournament opener. It was a game of two halves as the Aussies couldn't quite rise up to the task on a slow turning pitch. From 110 for 2, they collapsed to 199 all out giving them a sub-par total. Barring Steve Smith's 46 and David Warner's 41, none of the Australian batters could get going. They did strike back with the ball restricting India to 2 for 3, but Adam Zampa was neutralized by the Indian batters, leaving Australia clueless. Although two defeats won't rule them out of semi-final contention,
South Africa had a completely different start to their tournament, as they defeated Sri Lanka by 102 runs. It was a night of records as three Proteas batters scored centuries. Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen feasted at the top while Aiden Markram scored a blistering ton at nearly two runs a ball. They did get a scare in the chase though, as Kusal Mendis led Sri Lanka's charge with the bat. Yet, South Africa bowled them within 45 overs to get a comfortable win as Gerald Coetzee took three wickets and three other bowlers took two wickets each. Just before the World Cup, these sides were involved in a five-match series in South Africa where the Proteas came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with the batters leading their revival.
