After a tough opening match in the Cincinnati Masters, fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz takes on unseeded Flavio Cobolli. This is a match in the last 16 of this hard court Masters tournament. Who'll win? Here's our match prediction.
Hurcacz received a bye into round two and then faced quaifier Yoshihito Nishioka. The world number seven had to come from a set down to beat the Japanese player. He won the second set on a tie-break and then only dropped one game in the decider.
The Pole is 13th in the Live ATP Race so a deep run here would help him in his bid to qualify for the year-end Tour Finals. His best run on hard courts this year came in Marseille where he made it to the semi-finals.
Flavio Cobolli has already beaten one seed this week. He defeated the tenth seed Tommy Paul in round one. That took him three sets with the middle one being lost but he fought back to win the final set 7-5 and progress to round two.
That saw him take on fellow Italian Luciano Darderi and that was won in straight sets. He won the first and led 3-1 in the second when his opponent retired. Cobolli is now a career-high 31st in the rankings and can move up to 29th if winning this match.
He's shown good form on hard courts in recent weeks. He made it to the final in Washington and a win here will take him into his fourth hard court quarter-final of 2024. His one previous match against Hurkacz was this year losing in straight sets but that was on grass.
