Most matches in this final weekend of the main English Premiership match are play-off related. This one isn’t as the two bottom sides in the table face each other. Gloucester are ninth but can’t finish any higher than that. Nor can they drop down to bottom place as visitors Newcastle Falcons are guaranteed to finish in that spot. Between them these two clubs have played 34 matches in the English Premiership this season and won just four of them. All have been won by Gloucester but they’re on a poor run in the league at present with the last four being lost. They’ll have spent all week trying to forget the nightmare of losing 90-0 at leaders Northampton last weekend. Home form has seen them win two of their eight league games with 71 points conceded in their last two losses against Bristol and Leicester.
It’s been a miserable season for Newcastle Falcons. They’ve played 17 league games and lost every single one of them. Their points difference is an appalling -338 and only five bonus points have been earned this season. That has left them 22 points adrift at the bottom of the English Premiership. Their most recent match saw them beaten 28-17 at home by Bath. On the road, Newcastle have lost all eight games and returned home with just one point from those matches. Can they avoid losing all 18 league matches? We don’t believe so and tip Gloucester to win on a -15 points handicap.
