Sweden are still in with a chance of adding the world title to the European crown they won last year. They take on France in this semi-final with the winners meeting either Denmark or Spain in the final. That's a title decider that will be played in Sweden as is this semi-final. Being the hosts of course puts pressure on Sweden but it's also a good advantage to have and they've coped well so far. Not since 1999 have they become world champions but they are in their second successive world championship semi-final. They have won all their matches in this tournament and in the last eight defeated Egypt by a five-goal margin. Sweden have now won ten of their last 11 matches.

France are again in the world championship semi-finals. This is the fifth time in a row they've reached this stage but the last two have seen them defeated. France are the reigning Olympic champions but last won the world title in 2017. These championships have seen them win all six of their matches played. They easily won their preliminary round group and then did the same in their main round group, finishing ahead of Spain, who they could meet in the final. The last eight saw France beat Germany 35-28. It didn't look as if they'd win by such a margin after the scores were level at the break. This looks like being a closer match than that but it looks as if Sweden can just edge this one.
