France face Germany in the quarter finals of the 2023 Men's World Handball Championships. Only twice since 1990 has France failed to reach the last four of this tournament. The last time they failed to reach the last four was 2013. Since then, they've won the title twice, finished fourth in 2019 and third two years ago. They've been going well again in 2023 and won their preliminary round group finishing ahead of Poland, Slovenia and Saudi Arabia, winning all three games. In the main round, France had two more wins over Montenegro and Spain to stay unbeaten and win Group I by two points from the Spaniards.

Germany won their first five matches in this tournament but then lost to Norway 28-26 and finished second behind them in Group III of the main round. This is their first time in the quarter finals of the world championships since 2015. The last time they made it past the last eight was in 2007 when the Germans went on to win the world title for the third time. Last year saw them only reach the main round of the European Championships, while France finished fourth. It's been a good tournament for the Germans but it's France who can edge a narrow win here.
