Fiji, ranked ninth in the world, open their Nations Championship campaign taking on 11th-ranked Wales on Saturday at the Cardiff City Stadium. The Flying Fijians have put together an impressive 12 consecutive wins against lower-ranked teams dating back to 2023. This is why our prediction goes against the Red Dragons.

After back-to-back losses against England and France, Fiji returned to winning ways, defeating 17th-ranked Spain 41–33 in their last outing. That victory ensured Mick Byrne's side maintained their perfect record against lower-ranked opposition since their shock 24–23 defeat to Portugal in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. They will also be confident of a second straight victory over Wales, having won their previous meeting between the two sides in Cardiff in 2024. 

Off the back of a disappointing Six Nations campaign that saw them finish bottom of the standings, Wales will look to restore fans' confidence with a stronger showing in the Nations Championship. However, Steve Tandy's men have been continually tumbling down the World Rugby rankings since the 2023 World Cup due to a poor run of results. 

They scraped past the Barbarians 33–31 in their last preparatory match for this tournament, but have lost six of their last eight matches overall. Moreover, the Red Dragons have found results hard to come by against higher-ranked teams since 2023. They have lost 24 of their last 26 matchups with opponents that are above them in the rankings.
