With the Test and T20 series now complete, our attention turns to the 50-over format as the England Women prepare to take on Australia Women on Wednesday. The first of the three-match ODI series will take place at the County Ground in Bristol. After winning the one-off Test by 89 runs last month, the Aussies took a 4-0 lead early in the competition. Annabel Sutherland and Ellyse Perry scored 137 and 99, respectively, in the first innings. During the T20s, the Aussies were notably second best, with the exception of Perry, who continued her incredible form, top scoring for her side in four innings to date. Heading to the ODI series, Australia will feel they are back on top as the reigning ODI champions. Their record is one of the best in all women’s sport, currently standing at 42 wins in their last 43 matches. With each ODI win worth two points each, a win for Australia will mean they cannot lose the series and will retain the Ashes for the fifth consecutive time. 

England put up a good fight in the first innings of the Test match, led by Tamsin Beaumont, who scored an incredible 208 in 331 balls after Australia set a huge 473-run target. Beaumont’s double-hundred was the first by an English woman in Test cricket. Sophie Ecclestone was instrumental with the ball in hand and took 10 wickets in the match. England were unlucky in the first T20, as rain interrupted play just as they were gaining momentum. They bounced back excellently in the second and third matches to keep the series alive, and they still have a chance of winning the series if they can go three-for-three in the ODIs. However, it is worth keeping in mind that no country has beaten the Aussies in three consecutive ODIs.
