The 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will kickstart in Birmingham as hosts England take on Sri Lanka in a Group B engagement on Friday. Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, and the West Indies are the other teams in this group from which the top two teams move the semi-finals. The hosts are heavy favourites to win, so our prediction finds value in backing them to score the most match 6s.
England won the tournament in 2009 and crashed out of the group stage in 2024, losing on net run rate. Sri Lanka have never moved past the group stages in the T20 World Cups, and in the last edition, they lost all four games.
The English women will have a few injuries to cover but bring the confidence of winning four of their last six matches. That helped them defeat India and New Zealand 2-1, respectively, in a three-match series. A five-run win over India in the warm-up match on Wednesday is also a positive.
Sri Lanka defeated the Netherlands and Pakistan convincingly in their two warm-ups to be confident of their chances. They have also won their last five international matches, all against Bangladesh, but will be tested by one of the tournament favourites. That said, Sri Lanka have defeated England in their last two T20Is, albeit played long back in 2023.

Our England vs Sri Lanka Prediction
England have underperformed in recent global tournaments and hence have high hopes of doing well here. The hosts will have to do without the injured captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and batter Danni Wyatt-Hodge, although the former could be lining up as a pure batter. Sri Lanka have defeated England in their last two T20Is, back in 2023, but are unlikely to be a tricky opponent here.
It could be a tight game, but England are likely to edge ahead on the count for sixes. Our England vs Sri Lanka prediction is England to score most 6s.
