Scotland can complicate England’s Super 8 qualification chances as the teams meet in a Group C encounter of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This match in Kolkata on Saturday between the third-placed ‘Three Lions’ and the second-placed ‘Scots’ comes with our prediction of Phil Salt scoring at least 24 runs.
After a 30-run defeat to the Windies on Wednesday, England finds themselves struggling for breathing space. Another defeat here will see them lag behind Scotland in the top-two race and thereby complicate their chances of Super 8 qualification.
Scotland bounced back from a defeat to the West Indies with a thumping win over Italy to boost their net run rate and start above England. They are the last-minute entrants in this World Cup but can create a surprise by defeating their strong opponents. Can Scotland rise up to the occasion and spring a surprise? Or, will England blank the Scots and storm back into the top two spots? Read more for our analysis, team news, and match predictions.

England - Scotland: Form Analysis
England defeated associate nation Nepal by just four runs in match #5 of the tournament in Mumbai. It was a tight game that the ‘Three Lions’ could win only because of a stunning last over by Sam Curran.
They were then defeated by the Windies by 30 runs to slide in the points table due to net run rate. Jacob Bethell and Harry Brook scored their two individual 50+ scores in the tournament, while five regular bowlers have taken two wickets each.
George Munsey scored 41 in the only head-to-head, which was abandoned.
Scotland rode on George Munsey’s swashbuckling 84 off 54 balls to defeat World Cup debutants Italy by 73 runs. The massive win helped their net run rate, after the Scots started the tournament with a 35-run loss to the Windies.
Munsey (103 runs) remains their best batter of the tournament, while Michael Leask (five wickets, ER 7.37) and Brad Currie (three wickets, ER 5.83) have been amongst the wickets and kept things tight so far.

England & Scotland Squad Analysis
England swapped Luke Wood’s left-arm pace for Jamie Overton’s all-round skills in the second match. That was the only change, barring any last-minute injury issues to any of their original choice players.
The Three Lions will rely on the hard-hitting of Jacob Bethell, who has hit five sixes and eight fours in the tournament. Interestingly, Will Jacks struck four sixes against Nepal and will be crucial once again in the slog overs.
Liam Dawson bowled seven overs this tournament at an ER of 6.85.
Brad Wheal and Sufiyaan Sharif played one match each for the Scots, while the others have played both the games. Both have been equally poor in their respective games, so it could be anybody’s guess who will play.
Leask took 4 for 17 in the game against Italy, but captain Richie Berrington will hope for Currie to continue his frugal ways (ER 5.83). Brandon McMullen is another player who will hope for better impact, as he showed his batting prowess with an 18-ball 41 against Italy, laced with four sixes.

Our England vs Scotland Prediction
The only previous time these sides played in a T20 was in the 2024 World Cup when the match was abandoned due to rain after Scotland raced to 90 for no loss in ten overs. England wouldn’t want a repeat, as their qualification to the Super 8s hangs in the balance. They can’t afford another loss to remain in the top-two contention from Group C, while their laboured win over Nepal doesn’t inspire confidence.
The only ray of hope is Salt’s form, and our England vs Scotland prediction is Phil Salt over 23.5 runs.

The 20 qualifying teams were divided into four groups of five each. In the group stage, each team plays each of the other teams in the group once in a round-robin format, and the top two teams in each group will advance to the Super 8 stage.
In the Super 8s, the teams would be placed into two groups of four teams each. Prior to the tournament, the ICC announced the eight seeded teams based on the ICC T20I rankings, who will be placed in predetermined positions in the Super 8 stage, irrespective of their position in the group stage. If an unseeded team qualifies at the expense of a seeded team, it will take the position of the corresponding seeded team that fails to qualify from their group. In the Super 8 stage, each team will play against each of the other teams in the group once. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, which consists of two semi-finals, the winners of which face off in the final. No points would be carried over between stages.
