It's already been a big week in Austin for wild card Ajla Tomljanovic and qualifier Ena Shibahara. Neither had got past round two of a tournament this year but now meet in the last eight of the ATX Open. Here's our match prediction.
The winner of this outdoor hard court match will face either top seed Jessica Pegula or unseeded Anna Blinkova in the semi-finals. Tomljanovic is in her first quarter-final since winning the Hong Kong Open last October.
It's been a return to form this week for the Australian with wins over seventh seed Katie Volynets and Jodie Burrage. Three sets were needed to get past Burrage and Tomljanovic is now 103rd in the live rankings.
Ena Shibahara had to win two qualifying matches to reach the main draw and did so without losing a set. The first round saw her have to come from a set down to beat fellow qualifier Kava Juvan. That took her into the second round of a WTA Tour event for the first time in 2025.
More success followed with a three set win over Kimberly Birrell, dropping the middle set. That win has taken her to a career-high 133rd in the live rankings.
