Ekaterina Alexandrova, 14th seed, continues with her outstanding Miami Open campaign and will play unseeded Danielle Collins next. The two will battle in the semifinals with the winner playing either Elena Rybakina or Victoria Azarenka for the title. Ekaterina Alexandrova has eclipsed her best-ever result in Miami. Now she is seeking to earn her first appearance at a WTA 1000 final. The Russian was a quarterfinalist here last year. She has been a giant killer and in the last two rounds has eliminated two top five seeded players. First, it was world number one Iga Swiatek who fell in straight sets, and then fifth seed and crowd favourite Jessica Pegula. Pegula put up a sterner fight and took the game to three sets. This is Alexandrova’s third semi-final of the season. She advanced to the final in Linz but fell in this very round in Adelaide. The 29-year-old has moved into 15th place in the live ranking which is a career-high achievement.

Danielle Collins has also boosted her world ranking after advancing to the last four. The American former world number seven has catapulted up 20 places to 33rd in the live ranking. Unlike Alexandrova, Collins has played in the semifinals in Miami before. This was during her debut in 2018. The one-time Australian Open finalist will now seek to advance to not only her first final here but her first at 1000 level. Collins has won her last four rounds in Miami in straight sets. She defeated Caroline Garcia by the loss of five games in the quarterfinals. This improved her record to 18-7 and bumped her to her first tour semifinal since last September.
