Gael Monfils looks to continue his consistent form with a good run in Miami. He takes on Dusan Lajovic in the first round of this outdoor hard court tournament. For the winner of this match there's a second round match against 32nd seed Borna Coric. Monfils is 47th in the world rankings and a place lower than that in the ATP Live Race. The Frenchman made it to the last 16 at Indian Wells with good wins over seeds Hubert Hurkacz and Cameron Norrie before losing to Casper Ruud. Before that, he'd got to the last four in the outdoor hard court event held in Doha. He's 2-0 up in previous matches against Lajovic. The last of those was on this surface in Cincinnati last year, the other six years ago on clay. Monfils won both of those matches in straight sets.

Dusan Lajovic begins this tournament ranked 52nd in the world which is well below his career high of 23rd achieved five years ago. He's just behind Monfils in the Live ATP Race but has his form on clay courts to thank for that. He reached the last eight in both Buenos Aires and Rio but has struggled on hard courts in 2024. He lost three of his four matches played on hard courts before going to South American to play on their clay court season. His most recent tournament was in Indian Wells where he beat Emil Ruusuvouri in round one before being beaten in straight sets by Frances Tiafoe. We tip Monfils to get the win here in straight sets.
