Fourth seed Holger Rune and wildcard Dominic Stricker will face off in the second round in Basel. The two are scheduled to meet on Thursday and we have a prediction for this match.
Stricker lost eight games as he eliminated Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets in the first round. The win extended his strong run on indoor surfaces. The Swiss star has a 4-2 record on indoor hard courts.
He arrived in Basel after a run to the quarter-finals in Stockholm, his best result at tour level this year. Stricker, who has struggled due to fitness issues, has compiled a 9-13 record. He is ranked outside the ATP’s top 300.
Holger Rune has a strong record when playing in Basel. His worst result in his two previous appearances was a semi-final exit last year.
A finalist here in 2022, the Dane will be hopeful of once again challenging for the title. Rune began his tournament with a 2-0 victory over fourth seed Nicolas Jarry.
The sixth win in his last eight outings improved his record to 39-21 and moved him one place to 13th in the live ranking. Rune defeated Stricker four years ago in the ITF circuit in their first and only meeting.
The winner here will take on Ugo Humbert or David Goffin in the quarter-finals.
