After four competitive matches in the Hungarian Grand Prix, we now know the two finalists. Top seed Diana Shnaider will face unseeded Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and one of them will be set to follow Maria Timofeeva into the history books as the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix winner. Let's dive into the statistics and prediction for what is sure to be a thrilling final.

Schnaider comes into the game in outstanding form, having won 19 of her last 23 matches, including two tournament victories in that period. The Russian left-hander is now ranked a career-high 28th in the world and has provisionally moved to 23rd in the live rankings. 

She began with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Hungarian Fanny Stollar and that set dropped is the only one she has lost in the tournament. Defeating Ekaterina Makarova 6-3, 6-3 in the second round, Ella Seidel 6-4,6-2 in the quarter-finals and then Eva Lys 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-final. If anything her form has been improving throughout the tournament, which will concern her Belarusian opponent.

Sasnovich was unseeded in this tournament but made her mark with wins over second seed Viktoriya Tomova (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) and then last year's champion Maria Timofeeva 6-3,6-4. Suzan Lamens was beaten 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the quarter-finals and then in a fantastic semi-final, she registered her eighth win in nine matches over Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (2-6, 6-3, 6- 2). 

The two players last met in February at the quarter-final stage of the Doha TotalEnergies Open. Schnaider won that hard court contest in very comfortable fashion, 6-1, 6-2.

The bookmakers have Shnaider as the clear favorite, but Sasnovich's form in Hungary has been good so this may not be quite as straightforward as the odds suggest.
