The Detroit Pistons will host Eastern Conference rivals the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday to start their season. After posting mixed results in pre-season both the Pacers and Pistons come seeking a strong start to the year. Below is our prediction for this match.
The Pistons finished with the joint-worst record last year, winning 15 of 82 regular season games, leading to Monty Williams’ dismissal. Now under J.B. Bickerstaff, they’ll seek a better showing.
Detroit looked decent in pre-season, winning three of their five games. They defeated the Bucks, Suns and Cavs and in all three matches, put up at least 108 points. Last season, they averaged 109.9 points which was only good for 27th place.
The Indiana Pacers made the playoffs for the first time in four years last season and reached the Conference finals. They will be seeking another deep run this year.
Rick Carlisle’s men, who were the most rampant offensive team last term, seem to not have lost a spark in attack. They averaged a league-leading 122.6 points and in pre-season, this tally went up by two more points.
Despite their exciting offence, Indy still have defensive issues. They allowed 121 points in pre-season and lost twice in their four build-up matches. That, however, won’t be a concern coming here, as they have won the last four matchups with Detroit.
