Denmark take on the Netherlands as Group II of the Main Round begins. This group in the Men's European Handball Championships has six countries with the top two going into the semi-finals. Denmark already top this group due to the fact points earned against other qualifying countries are carried through into this Main Round. The Danes had two points to carry forward and have the best goal difference putting them above Sweden and Slovenia who also have a couple of points. Denmark are the reigning world champions and won all their matches in Preliminary Round Group F. They beat the Czech Republic and Greece (scoring 40 goals against them) and then defeated Portugal (also in this group) by a ten goal margin. The Danes are unbeaten in their last 24 games with 22 of those won and their last loss was in 2022.

The Netherlands begin this match in fourth place but with no points. They played in Group E of the Preliminary Round and finished in second place behind Sweden. The Dutch side qualified for this Main Round with one game to spare. Wins came against Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (by a 16-goal margin) but then lost their final group game to Sweden but only by one goal. That left them with no points to carry into the Main Round and a loss to the Danes here will make it difficult for them to finish in the top two.
