The Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans will face off in match 40 of the 2024 Indian Premier League on Wednesday afternoon. The hosts are currently in eighth place in the league standings, while the visitors are sixth. Delhi Capitals are having another tough season in the IPL, currently on six points after eight games. They are trailing the top four by two points but have played a game more than several of the teams above them. The Capitals enter this match off the back of a 67-run loss against the Sunrisers Hyderabad which saw them miss out on a third consecutive victory. Jake Fraser-McGurk top scored for Delhi with 65 runs in the loss, while Rishabh Pant added 44. Pant is the leading run-scorer in the competition for the side with 254 runs and is currently ranked 12th in the orange cap standings. Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed have both taken ten wickets to date and are seventh and tenth in the race for the purple cap. DC beat this opponent comprehensively last week by six wickets and with more than 11 overs to spare but are the underdogs in this one, according to the bookmakers.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans will be out for revenge here after they were bowled out for a meager 89 by this opponent last week. After reaching the playoffs in each of their last two seasons, the Titans are once again in the mix for a playoff spot this term. They are one of three teams currently tied on eight points but find themselves below the Super Kings and Super Giants due to their inferior net run rate, which currently stands at -1.055. The Titans bounced back from that thrashing against this opponent with a solid three-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings on Sunday. Rahul Tewatia and Shubman Gill made 36* and 35, respectively, in the victory, while Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore notched up an excellent 4/33 in his four overs with the ball. Gill is the Titans’ top scorer in the competition, now on 298 runs in seven innings and fourth in the race for the orange cap. Sai Sudharson is ninth in the top-scorer standings, and Mohit Sharma is 11th in the purple cap standings, currently on ten wickets.
