Dayana Yastremska ousted 24th-ranked Victoria Mboko in straight sets, winning 6-3, 7-6(7-3) to qualify for the round of 16. This result ended a three-match losing streak for the Ukrainian, including first-round exits in three consecutive tournaments. 

She suffered defeats in four of her last six matches (excluding the awarded victory to Coco Gauff in the Cincinnati Open). The 25-year-old's 4-4 record in her last eight matches on hard court has dented her rating going into this match.

Elena Rybakina enters this match off the back of a straight-set defeat to Aryna Sabalenka in the Wuhan Open quarter-final on Friday. In a poor showing against the World No. 1, Rybakina lost 89% of her return games to fall 6-3, 6-3.
