Sixth seed Beatriz Haddad Maia and seventh seed Daria Kasatkina will square off in the semifinals at the Abu Dhabi Open. The winner here will then advance to the championship match to battle either Elina Rybakina or Liudmila Samsonova. Daria Kasatkina is coming off a dominant quarterfinal victory over Sorana Cirstea. She dropped just two games in the contest and has now won seven of the 10 matches she has played this year. It was her second 2-0 win in Abu Dhabi. The world number 14 is making her third appearance here and has advanced to the last four for the first time.

Beatriz Haddad Maia has won both times she has faced off with Kasatkina. Both matches were played last season with one being a semifinal showdown. This was last October in Zhuhai where she was crowned champion. The Brazilian will be hoping for a similar trajectory here. Maia has also had a strong start to the year and has compiled a 6-3 record. She defeated second seed Ons Jabeur to advance to this round. This was a different battle from her second-round tie. The world number 13 was involved in the longest WTA match so far this year in her three-set battle with Magada Linette. It lasted for three hours and 42 minutes with the first two sets requiring a tiebreaker.
