Second seed Jannik Sinner is one match away from his third final in Miami in four years. He takes on the third seed Daniil Medvedev for a place in the final. Sinner has still only lost one match this year, that was to Carlos Alcaraz in the recent Indian Wells tournament. He's won two titles this year, one indoors in Rotterdam, the other the Australian Open. The latter was played on an outdoor hard court surface which is the one being used for this match. No player has earned more ranking points this year than Sinner but Medvedev is second on that list. Sinner beat unseeded Tomas Machac in straight sets in his quarter final. He's reached the last four for the loss of just one set, that was to Tallon Griekspoor in round three. Sinner lost his first six matches against Medvedev but has won the last four. The most recent of those was in this year's Australian Open final.

Daniil Medvedev is the defending champion in this Masters 1000 tournament. He won last year's final by beating Sinner, the last win he's had over the Italian. Medvedev has reached two finals this year, most recently when being beaten by Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells. Only four tournaments have been played by the Russian this year but he's made the semi-final in each of them. His quarter final saw him beat 22nd seed Nicolas Jarry, though he needed a tie-break in the second. He's yet to drop a set in this tournament.
