Top seed Daniil Medvedev continues with his Vienna Open title defence and will on Friday play eighth seed Karen Khachanov. The two will battle in the quarterfinals with the winner next playing either Stefanos Tsitsipas or Borna Gojo. Daniil Medvedev had to come from a set down in the last round to defeat Grigor Dimitrov. This was a repeat of last season's semifinal. His 62nd win of the season allowed him to maintain his 100% record on indoor hard courts this year. The current world number three has won all seven matches he has played on the surface resulting in one of his five titles. Medvedev has dominated this series with Khachanov and has won four of the five meetings.

Karen Khachanov has equaled his best-ever result in Vienna by advancing to the last eight. He will now hope to avoid a third defeat in this round. The Russian has been in exciting form here and has won his two rounds without dropping a set. He defeated the unseeded Jiri Lehecka by the loss of just three games in the last round. Khachanov hasn’t been dominant in recent seasons on indoor hard courts but so far this season he has looked sharp. He made his debut on the surface in Vienna and he will hope to keep the momentum going. Khachanov, who has compiled a 30-15 record, is ranked 15th in the live ranking.
