Alcaraz is back up to second in both the overall and ATP Race after reaching this hard court semi-final. The 21-year-old has managed to overtake Alexander Zverev to be in second spot behind Jannik Sinner.
Three ATP Tour singles titles have been won by Alcaraz this year. Of those, just the one came in a hard court tournament. That was when he won the Indian Wells title and it was Medvedev who he beat in the final.
Since he lost in the second round of the US Open, Alcaraz has gone on a winning streak with seven wins in a row. This week has also seen him beat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and Tallon Griekspoor without dropping a set.
He leads Medvedev 5-2 in previous meetings and 3-1 in matches played on this surface.
Daniil Medvedev last beat Alcaraz last year in the US Open. His only other win over the Spaniard came on grass at Wimbledon three years ago. He's failed to take a set off Alcaraz on hard courts in two defeats since then,
